Course overview:

To comply with the current UK Resuscitation Guidelines on I.L.S. Defibrillation and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation in relation to adults and paediatrics 2021 Guidelines.

 

Demonstrate the knowledge and skills (in simulation) to effectively identify patients who are deteriorating or are in peri-arrest or cardiac arrest states and undertake effective Immediate Life Support (ILS) in a healthcare setting

 

ILS Course is benchmarked against: Resuscitation Council (UK) (RCUK) Resuscitation Guidelines (2021) NICE Clinical Guideline 25 (2005) British Thoracic Society Guidelines

 

Valid for 12 Months

Assessed by ‘Practical ILS Scenario’ and continuous assessment


Course:


This interactive 5 - 6 hour course is delivered using small group scenarios, in a friendly environment and can be delivered at your venue.

  • ABCDE Approach

  • ILS and PILS – adult and child resuscitation 

  • Airway management – airway adjuncts, Igels, BVM and suction

  • Oxygen therapy

  • Pulse oximeter training

  • Taking blood pressure 

  • Taking blood glucose levels training

  • Asthma

  • Anaphylaxis

  • Cardiac emergencies

  • Epileptic seizures

  • Hypoglycaemia

  • Syncope

  • Choking and aspiration

  • Team-based training incidents

  • Administration of drugs in an emergency

  • Use of the AED in adults and paediatrics

 

  • Resuscitation Equipment:

    • Content

    • Operational Checks and Locations

  • Recognition of the deteriorating patient

    • AVPU / Glasgow coma scale

    • The ABCDE Approach

    • The Modified Early Warning Score

    • Spotting The Sick Patient

  • The Circulatory system:

    • The Heart – anatomy and physiology

    • Cardiovascular Disease

    • Causes of cardiac arrest and recognition features including 4 H’s and 4 T’s

  • Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation – 2021 GUIDELINES ADULTS AND CHILDREN

    • CPR demonstration and practice

    • AED and safe defibrillation Protocol for using AED

    • Shockable and non-shockable rhythm

Qualification: 

The course provides CPD points.

The Royal College of Surgeons (Conscious Sedation)

Practitioners must be able to provide age-appropriate immediate life support as defined by the main elements of the Resuscitation Council (UK) ILS and PILS training programmes. It is not essential to undertake a Resuscitation Council (UK) accredited ILS/PILS course. Alternative courses with equivalent content which are adapted to the needs of dental practice are acceptable: these might also include the management of common sedation, medical and dental emergencies.
