Level 1 Award in Awareness of Safeguarding (RQF)

Practical discussion to help learners understand how safeguarding principles may apply within real situations.

The course provides learners with an understanding of safeguarding and their responsibilities when a concern arises.

 

Learners will develop knowledge of how to:

Schools and education

Health and social care​

Dental and healthcare settings

Childcare and early years

Charities and voluntary organisations

Sports and activity groups

Community organisations

Hospitality and leisure

Businesses whose staff may have safeguarding responsibilities

This qualification is suitable for anyone who may come into contact with children, young people or adults at riskthrough their employment, voluntary work or community activities.

It may be particularly suitable for staff working within:

Recognise possible signs of abuse and neglect

Understand safeguarding responsibilities

Identify safeguarding concerns

Respond appropriately to a disclosure

Understand appropriate reporting procedures

Recognise when concerns should be escalated

Understand the importance of recording and reporting safeguarding information appropriately

Syllabus:

The course encourages discussion and helps learners understand how safeguarding principles may apply within real workplace and organisational situations.

Upon successful completion of the qualification assessment, learners will be awarded the: Level 1 Award in Awareness of Safeguarding (RQF) This is an Ofqual regulated qualification.

Subjects covered:

A range of safeguarding-related subjects are covered, including:

Safeguarding legislation and guidance

Roles and responsibilities

Abuse and neglect

Identifying concerns and disclosure

Making judgements

Reporting safeguarding concerns

Assessment:

The qualification is assessed through a written assessment, which includes both open and multiple-choice questions.

Learners must successfully pass the written assessment to achieve the qualification.

There is no grading of the assessment. Learners are recorded as either:

Pass or Refer

The qualification does not have an expiry date. However, refresher training and keeping up to date with changes to safeguarding policies, procedures, guidance and new legislation through ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is recommended.

Organisations should ensure staff remain familiar with changes, legislation, guidance, policies and procedures through appropriate training, Refreshers  and ongoing Continuing Professional Development. (CPD).
