Adult Mental Health First Aid: 2 Day Course

 

This comprehensive Mental Health First Aid course focuses on giving people the skills and knowledge to identify, understand and effectively help someone who may be experiencing mental ill health in the workplace and wider community. 

Intended Audience:

Mental Health First Aid training is not designed to teach you how to be a therapist, but it will teach you to recognise the most common issues people face with mental ill health and teach you how to listen, reassure and actively support those who are struggling. 

Mental Health First Aiders will be able to:

  • Recognise signs and symptoms of many common mental health issues

  • Direct anyone with potential mental ill health to appropriate and reliable support, both within the workplace and externally

  • Actively listen and feel confident having open conversations about mental health with those who may be suffering

  • Be a confident mental health advocate within the workplace

  • Assist with policy writing and risk assessments for mental health in the workplace

Course Overview:

Through a mix of presentation, discussions, self-reflection and group activities, completion of the two day MHFA course, delivered by a quality assured trainer who has attended the MHFA Instructor Training programme accredited by the Royal Society for Public Health, qualifies you as a Mental Health First Aider giving you:

  • An in-depth understanding of mental health and the factors that can affect wellbeing

  • Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues

  • Confidence to step in, reassure and support a person in distress

  • Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening

  • Knowledge to help someone recover their health by guiding them to further support - whether that’s self-help resources, through their employer, the NHS, or a mix 

 

Qualifications:

All learners receive a certificate of attendance as well as the five-step MHFA action plan and comprehensive manual on completion of the course.

Mental Health Awareness Course: 4 hours

This introductory course focuses on helping learners become more aware of mental ill health, as well as actively promoting personal positive wellbeing. It gives a basic understanding of the most common mental health issues and explains how to recognise them.

Course Overview:

This 4 hour Mental Health Awareness Course is fully accredited by Mental Health First Aid England and provides:

  • An understanding of what mental health is and how to challenge stigma

  • A basic knowledge of common mental health issues

  • Skills for looking after your own mental health and maintaining wellbeing

  • Confidence to support someone in distress or who may be experiencing mental ill health

Qualifications:
All our Mental Health First Aid instructors are specialists in delivering MHFA courses and are fully accredited by Mental Health First Aid England. Certificate of attendance awarded.

Youth Mental Health First Aid: 2 Day

This nationally recognised qualification by the Royal Society for Public Health, qualifies you as a Youth Mental Health First Aider

Intended Audience:

Youth care workers, parents, fosters cares, health care workers and all those with an interest in youth mental health care issues.

Course Overview:

 Through a mix of presentation, discussions, self-reflection and group activities, completion of the two day Youth MHFA course, delivered by a quality assured trainer who has attended the MHFA Instructor Training programme accredited by the Royal Society for Public Health, qualifies you as a Youth Mental Health First Aider giving you:

  • An in-depth understanding of young people's mental health and factors that can affect wellbeing

  • Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues

  • Confidence to step in, reassure and support a young person in distress

  • Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening

  • Knowledge to help a young person recover their health by guiding them to further support - whether that’s self-help resources, their place of learning, the NHS, or a mix - engaging with parents, carers and external agencies where appropriate

  • Ability to support a young person with a long term mental health issue/disability to thrive

  • Tools to look after your own mental wellbeing

Qualifications:
You will receive a certificate to confirm your training as well as the five-step MHFA action plan and comprehensive manual on completion of the course.

Mental Health First Aid Refresher: 4 hours

You've completed the Mental Health First Aid or MHFA Champion course - practice your skills and keep your knowledge up to date.

Intended Audience:

  • You've completed the Mental Health First Aid or MHFA Champion course - practice your skills and keep your knowledge up to date.​

  • Network with other MHFAider's and Champions - share your experiences with like minded delegates.

Course Overview:

The course is a four hour refresher session for those who have completed the MHFA two or one day course. Just like physical first aid, we recommend you refresh your skills yearly. 

 

MHFA England's Two Day and One Day courses are valid for three years. If it's more than three years since you completed your initial course, it's time to redo your training.

 

The session is delivered through a mix of group activities, presentation and discussion.
