QA Level 3 Award in Administering Emergency Oxygen
Over a half day period, candidates will learn about the clinical need for emergency oxygen and the safety considerations as well as how to administer emergency oxygen when dealing with a range of conditions. Successful candidates will leave the course with the knowledge and skills needed to administer emergency oxygen both safely and effectively.
Intended audience:
This qualification is for people who have a specific responsibility to be able to safely administer and monitor the effects of emergency oxygen within their scope of practice. This includes (but is not limited to) the following roles/personnel:
• First aider and those operating in a high risk workplace such as offshore First aider
• For helping people with breathing difficulties
• In hyperbaric chambers as a medical treatment
• In steelworks and chemical plants
• Community first responders
• Fire, police and other emergency services personnel
• Cabin/film crews
• Those working in doctor’s surgeries, walk-in medical centres or within the security service.
While achievement of this qualification confirms Learners have met both the theoretical and practical requirements, this does not imply a ‘license to practice’ – the scope of practice will be determined by the organisation responsible for oxygen provision. This qualification does not allow a Learner to obtain, store or administer oxygen without clinical governance.
Entry requirements:
Learners must be at least 16 years old on the first day of the training.
Before they can register on to this qualification, Learners must have:

Successfully completed a minimum of a Level 3 First Aid at Work (FAW) or higher level first aid/emergency care qualification or QA recognised equivalent.

Oxygen delivery devices, including:
• Nasal cannula
• Venturi mask 28%
• Non re-breather mask
• Bag valve mask and pocket mask
Qualifications:
Qfqual regulated Level 3 Award in Administration of Emergency Oxygen (3 Year qualification)
