Guest Speaker Giving Back

Garry Perkins HCPC Paramedic and director of Sussex first aid courses

Welcome

I’m Garry Perkins—a father, HCPC Paramedic, and Director at Sussex First Aid Courses.
We are proud to support Demelza House Children’s Hospice, a place that gave my family incredible care and compassion in our hour of need.

My dear son, Ryan, spent his final days with us at Demelza House, where he passed peacefully with his family by his side.

Their support made an unimaginable time more bearable, and I will always be grateful for the dignity and love they gave Ryan and all of us.

I am available for guest speaker talks for your event in aid of Demelza House.

My Story -Ryan's Journey My first son, Ryan, had a rather dramatic arrival into the world. During his birth, the umbilical cord became entangled around his neck, leaving him with brain damage and a diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy. We were blessed to have Ryan in our lives for ten precious years. During this time, he required a great deal of medical care because of his complex needs. As a family, we were introduced to Demelza House—a children’s hospice that gave us not only respite care but also became the place of Ryan’s peaceful passing. When we first came to Demelza House, it had only just opened, and we were among the very first families to use its incredible facilities. From the start, the team there gave us unwavering support. My other two sons, Harry and Samual, also benefitted hugely from their kindness—both during Ryan’s life and after his passing. Ryan’s final hours at Demelza House were truly special. The care team created an environment filled with love and peace. We were able to cuddle together as a family with Ryan, surrounding him with warmth and comfort. On a beautiful sunny morning, Ryan passed away with us all by his side. Afterwards, we were able to stay at the hospice for two more days. Ryan rested in the bereavement suite—a specially designed room where we could visit him in peace. He was dressed in his favourite outfit, with his music playing softly in the background. This gave Harry and Samual the chance to process their grief, and they even decorated the walls with posters for their brother. These tender moments helped us enormously during one of the most difficult times of our lives. Demelza House gave us the gift of love, care, and dignity in Ryan’s final days. Their work is truly life-changing for families facing the most unimaginable challenges. If you are able to support this incredible charity, please consider making a donation through the link below. Your generosity will make a real difference to families in need, just as it did for ours. With heartfelt thanks, Garry Perkins HCPC Paramedic
