QA Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF)

The QA Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF) qualification is designed for those who work with or intend to work in childcare settings.

​

This course meets the Ofsted and Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) first aid requirements for:

• Nursery staff

• Childminders

• Early years teachers

• Nannies and childcare providers

​

Successful learners will understand the roles and responsibilities of a paediatric first aider and develop the knowledge and practical skills required to safely manage emergency situations involving infants and children.

This regulated and nationally recognised qualification equips learners with the confidence to respond effectively to a range of paediatric first aid incidents.

Course Duration

2 day course (12 hours total training time)

Training is delivered through a mixture of practical scenarios, demonstrations, and guided discussions, allowing delegates to practise key skills in a supportive learning environment.

Course Programme:

Day 1 – Emergency Paediatric First Aid

• The roles and responsibilities of a paediatric first aider

• Assessing an emergency situation

• Managing an unresponsive infant or child

• Recovery position

• CPR and AED use

• Choking

• Head and spinal injuries

• Fractures

• Anaphylaxis and allergic reactions

Recognising Childhood Illness

• Spotting illness in infants and children

• Meningitis

• Asthma, croup and epiglottitis

• Sickle cell anaemia

• Febrile convulsions

• Seizures

• Diabetic emergencies

​

Day 2 – Injuries and Medical Conditions

• Poisoning

• Burns and scalds

• Electric shock

• External bleeding

• Hypovolaemic shock

• Eye, ear and nose conditions

• Bites and stings

• Minor injuries

• Managing hot and cold body temperatures

  The course concludes with practical and theory assessments.

Qualification

Upon successful completion, learners will receive:

QA Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF)
Valid for 3 years

The qualification is awarded through Qualsafe Awards and is regulated by Ofqual.
